It’s hard for a graffiti artist to get good credibility, even in our days. With so many examples of good graffiti art, you would think that it would be an increasingly accepted medium in our times. Unfortunately, the few respected graffiti artists are still an exception to a norm of distrust and general disdain by the general public. But if there’s one artist that definitely breaks that norm, that artist is Banksy. Known throughout the world, his works are as famous as they are expensive. And Banksy prints as well as originals sell really well. If this isn’t necessarily a barometer for how good an artist he is, it’s definitely a way to tell how successful he is.
But let’s not forget that the medium he uses for his art isn’t the most respected one. Stencils and freehand spray paint over a wall isn’t necessarily the pathway to artsy glory, so an artist that does well and is respected on that medium is sure to be good. And it’s not just because of his skill that he has earned respect. The messages that come across his work have earned him the respect of the most hardcore political and social activists, as well as of the general public.
